Software Available to students through the Student Technology Fund

Students, through their payment of the Student Tech Fee, pay 1/3 the cost of the UC Berkeley's contract with Microsoft.  This gives them access to Microsoft Office's productivity suite including Excel, Powerpoint, Word, and operating system upgrades at a much better rate than they would get on the open market, even at the educational rate.  Windows 7 and 8 will stopped receiving security patches at the end of January 2020, but students need not purchase a new device.  They can upgrade their operating system to Windows 10 by following the these(link is external) instructions.

Adobe Creative Cloud Logo

Students, through their payment of the Student Tech Fee, pay a portion of UC Berkeley's contract with Adobe for its Adobe Creative Cloud suite of graphic design, video editing, and web development applications including Acrobat, Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, InDesign, Premier Pro, XD, and more.  Migrate your work from Adobe Creative Cloud when you graduate by following these steps.

Matlab Logo

Students, through their payment of the Student Tech Fee, pay, together with a consortium of departments, pay ~9% of UC Berkeley's contract for MATLAB.  MATLAB is a programming language utilized for applications development, including graphical user Interface building. STF offers MATLAB with Simulink and all toolboxes.

Qualtrics Logo

The campus Qualtrics license is funded in partnership by a grant from the Student Technology Fund, IST, a consortium of colleges, schools, divisions and departments, and the D-Lab. The Student Technology Fund also provides funding for student empolyees, consultants, and instructors who provide Qualtrics software support.

Student Access Eligibility Limitations

All students who pay Campus-Based Fees, which includes the Student Technology Fee, have access to the above software.  The Student Technology Fee is paid by all registered UC Berkeley undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, with the exception of  graduate students on  filing fee status, or who are abroad conducting research or taking courses at other institutions not through the system-wide UCEA program.  These students are considered in absentia and do not pay Campus-Based Fees (only a reduced Student Services Fee); they are thus not eligible for benefits associated with fees like the Student Technology Fee.
